UL Student Life host successful Christmas Market

UL Student Life host successful Christmas Market

The courtyard in the University of Limerick was transformed into a two-day Christmas Market hosted by UL Student Life in conjunction with Campus Life Services. The market was held on Wednesday the 1st of December and Thursday 2nd of December. This market was supported extremely well by students and staff in UL as they came out in their droves over the two days, despite the recent spike in Covid 19 case numbers and the emergence of a new variant of the virus. The Christmas market was very safe, UL Student Life and the University carry out an extensive health and safety procedure before any event takes place. All stalls had social distance queuing, the stalls had hand sanitizer in place and the games were sanitized after each use.

Visitors to UL Students Life’s Christmas Market were treated to over thirteen stalls, which included hot food crafted bread, confectionery, crafts, and jewelry. All market stalls were local and as an organization, UL Student life are proud to support local business.

On Wednesday the 1st of December between 5 pm and 7 pm, patrons were spoiled with some live music provided by UL Students who happen to be talented musicians also. The Christmas tree was lit up and the courtyard boundary walls were lit up and decorated with wreaths, which added to the festive atmosphere, which was so badly craved, by the students and staff alike on campus. The evening also provided patrons with a Santa’s grotto, stilt walkers, an oversized Grinch, and a walking Christmas tree.

Greg Browne of Casa Street Kitchen said ‘’This was a brilliantly organised event by the team at UL Student Life, thanks to everyone in UL that came out to support us over the two days and best of luck with the Christmas exams!”

Sarah O’Sullivan from SOS Cookies said ‘’ It was a fantastic two days in UL fueling the busy students for their upcoming exams. The festive atmosphere and entertainment really marked the start of Christmas’’

UL Student Life wish to thank all the traders who came to the market and Campus Life Services for supporting the market and all those who visited the courtyard on the 1st and 2nd of December.

General Manager of UL Student Life Martin Ryan said ‘’UL Student life were delighted to bring some Christmas atmosphere to the campus this December, the lighting of our Christmas Tree in the courtyard followed by the 2 day Christmas Market helped students and staff celebrate together safely bringing an end to a very challenging year for everyone’’

Cathal McCarthy Marketing Coordinator for UL Student Life said ‘’ This Christmas Market was a great success, students and staff of UL thoroughly enjoyed the event over the two days. The Christmas Market brought an electric atmosphere back to campus, which was badly missed for the past twenty months. This is an event we hope to run annually. ‘’

Cathal went on to thank everyone involved in getting the Christmas Market up and running including UL Student Life Staff, Campus Life Services, UL Building and Estates, all our traders and suppliers, and the students and staff of UL.
