The role of Student Council Chairperson is a part-time voluntary role. You will become a member of the Student Executive, which is a working group of 12 students who are elected by you to help implement students’ ideas, run campaigns, support student led activities and represent students’ interests with the University at every level.
The Exec meet in the Student Centre weekly and attend Student Council fortnightly. They report to Council on the work they have done on students’ behalf and feedback on the University meetings they attended. The Exec members meet with students daily whether it be to hear their ideas for UL Student Life or give guidance on the many issues students may be dealing with e.g. medical, financial difficulties, accommodation, exam papers, progression, etc.
Role & Responsibilities include :
- Chairs Student Council Meeting
- Attends weekly Exec Meetings
- Sits as a director for the Union on the Board of Directors
- Works with the Student Life team to ensure effective democracy and student engagement.
- Leaders For Life Training provided.
- Receives support from Leadership & Representation Department
- All hours go towards PVA

What is Student Council?
Student Council is where all the big decisions are made!
Council is made up of 56 students who discuss and vote on UL Student Life policy ensuring a better student experience in all areas, academic, social, welfare, equality, and diversity.
Council meets online every second Tuesday at 6 pm – all students are welcome to attend a meeting but only elected members may vote.
As the representative group of all UL students, they direct the Executive on what work to carry out by making sure they are working on the issues that matter to you!
