Kayak Club and Environmental Society win the National ‘Waters and Community Tidy Towns Award

Kayak Club and Environmental Society won the National ‘Waters and Community Award Runner Up 2018’ from TidyTowns. It was for the annual ‘River Clean Up’ organised by the Environmental Committee, Environmental Society and Kayak Club. This award was for the River cleanup that took place on 11th March 2018.

However, this year’s riverbank cleanup took place on March 30th and attracted more people on the banks and in the river than 2018 where the Environmental Society and Kayak Club helped out. At least 100 people showed up to help out! This is great because only a couple of years ago the number was only 25 or even lower. We hope that in the coming years even more people come to help clean and support these necessary and important projects that must be done! All in all, it was a lot of fun being able to do something good with people that you enjoy being around.

The award itself “is in recognition of the people and businesses who have collaborated as a community to work and improve their environment, foster civic pride and make their town a better place.” – it’s for everyone that helps out on the day from all of the committees involved.

Now of course the kayak club and the environmental society would still participate regardless of the award and prize money. However, still a big thank you to tiny towns and the entirety of the team limerick cleanup crew for this recognition as it’s completely humbling.
